New Years Eve…

has arrived!! Tomorrow is the beginning of a new year…fresh starts and new goals, and BOY…do I have plenty!!
I am traveling out to Sidney, Nebraska next week. I am really looking forward to going even though it is only for one night! I am sure some of you know that Sidney is the home of the very first Cabela’s Store and is where the headquarters is located. I remember my very first trip to Cabela’s, and it was to the one in Sidney. I was completely hooked that first trip, and now I am excited to go back for a little visit. Wandering around and looking at all the interesting and awesome lures, baits, and gear is exactly the relaxing evening I need :)
Along with new promises, hopes, and goals, the new year brings a fresh new season of fishing and outdoor shows, and I just adore them all!!! The All Canada Show will be coming to Omaha in February, and I am already getting excited for it. Another show that is fun to attend is The Safari Club Show. I am not a hunter, but I really like the show that this organization puts on. Plus, each show offers beer for sale which makes any time a funner time…LOL ;)
I will definitely be covering each and every show I attend here on “From The Fisherbabe”, and I might even do a few video blogs. It would be very fun and very interesting to interview a couple of the lodge and camp owners at each show. They always have something interesting to tell you about fishing!!! I am so excited already!!!
I hope you all have a great, fun evening tonight, but please be very careful and safe. I know, as well as anyone, that beer makes for a super fun time…but PLEASE do not drink and drive. Remember to assign a designated driver before the night begins and allow only that person to control the keys. If you have no designated driver, please call a taxi to drive you safely home. Also remember that, although you may be responsible, safe and sober tonight, there may be someone else on the road who is not. Watch out for others who may not cherish their lives quite as much as we all cherish yours.
Happy New Year ~

Another Fabulous Year…

has come and gone, but what an incredible year it has been. Seriously…one of my best ever!!! Let’s review shall we????
First of all, “From The Fisherbabe” was born in February of this marvelous year. Yep, folks…that’s right!! It has only been 10 short, FABULOUS months since I began blogging my little fishing heart out right here on http://www.fisherbabe.com/. I cannot believe that, in just a few short months, I have met some of the friendliest, kindest, loveliest people I will ever hope to meet in my life. Seriously…you guys are FANTASTIC. I have learned so much from each and every one of you and hope that in the new year, I get to know each of you a little bit more!!!
You know…when I started this blog, I was a bit anxious about how it would go over…and about how I would be received by fishermen and fisherwomen in the industry. I mean, I do not tournament fish…which is usually the calling card of a “professional fisherman or fisherwoman.” I was afraid that, because I did not fish for bass regularly and preferred the wilderness of Canada hunting for Northern Pike, Lakers, and Walleyes, no one would take me seriously. What a silly notion that was!!!!
You guys have been amazing…teaching me something lovely with every comment and with every email and most importantly, teaching me that fishing is an industry of acceptance and flexibility. It is a sport of your making with room for all types of regular folks and all types of “professionals.” I have learned that, although there are still a few “good old boys (and girls)” who refuse to accept that a girl like me can outfish them (or thier hubbys) blindfolded with an arm tied behind my back and be a credible fishing source, 99.99999% of the industry is SERIOUSLY FABULOUS!!!! You all have given me the incredible gift of that realization…thank you all so much for that precious gift!!!
This blog is one of the happiest parts of my life. Sharing my passion for the sport of fishing is something I look forward to everyday. I hope that you will all keep coming back in the new year!!!
Let’s see…what else ~ Oh YEAH!!! I broke all of my freshwater records this year. I mean…that within itself is an amazing feat. I caught 11 Master Angler sized fish in 6 days in Manitoba in May/June 2009. My biggest measured in at 43.5…and I caught 3 that size!!! The biggest of the 3 weighed 19 pounds, so I still have goals for 2010 LOL :) !! I have to break that 20 pound mark, for sure. Oh…and a 52 incher would be FABULOUS!!!
I also went Lake Trout fishing in September at MacKay Lake up in Northwest Territories, Canada, and broke the 20 pound freshwater barrier with a 25 pound Lake Trout. I also reeled in a 23 pounder, a couple of 18 pounders, and countless other teen sized Lakers. This trip also provided me with my first glimpse of the Northern Lights (or the Aurora Borealis in scientific speak). They were…simply amazing!! :)
Other great things that happened this year include obtaining some fabulous new reels, a fabulous new plano rod case, learning to crochet, taking a cruise to Mexico, turning 30-1, and venturing into video blogging (which I fully intend to do more of in 2010)!!!
So, as you can all see, 2009 was pretty great to me. Seriously great!!! I hold so much hope for 2010 to be even more fabulous, if that is possible!!! I am planning some great things for the blog…a redesign is in the works…and I really want to kick http://www.fisherbabe.com/ up to the next level…whatever that means LOL :)
I really hope all of you had a great 2009, as well!! Please comment and tell me some great stuff that happened to you in 2009!!!
Happy Fishing in 2010 ~

The Fisherbabe’s Guide To A FISH-TASTIC Holiday Season…

Okay Okay…so I have spent the last hour trying to figure out what is wrong with blogger that it won’t let me upload my STOCKING STUFFERS video. I have just gotten so frustrated that I give up…LOL :) So back to the normal old grind of writing a post…LOL!!! Darn…my video was good too…LOL :)

So anyways…my little sock is full of super great ideas for any fishergirl or fisherboy on your list…and all of these things fit right into a stocking!!! AND…at the end of this post, there is a special little suprise just waiting!!!

Sooooooo…what is in my stocking??? Let’s see…

First, I have Berkely Line Clippers. Now these are great for a multitude of little odd jobs when fishing…they cut your line, they make switching lures faster, ect. PLUS, they have a strap that goes around your neck to ensure that they are always easily accessible when needed. They are from Berkley, a trusted brand that is made to last.

They are also pretty cheap at only 2 bucks!!!

Second, I have PLANO POCKET STOWAWAY BOXES.

Now, everyone knows how much I LOVE PLANO!!! This is a company that is dependable and trustworthy. Their products are tough and durable, and I always have a couple of these little boxes in my tackle box. They fit right down into the bottom of most hip/roof boxes and into the top of most large tray boxes. They also easily fit into your pocket (or a stocking)!!!
In my stocking, I have a double sided small stowaway and a six compartment pocket stowaway…
They are inexpensive stocking stuffers that run around 2-3 dollars each. They fit perfectly inside any stocking and are great for flies and tiny lures.

I would be incredibly happy to find Plano anything stuffed into my stocking on Christmas morning!!! (Hint Hint Santa!!)

The third super cool item in my stocking is a Polaroid disposable camera with 2x ZOOM.

Now, I love this because it allows you to take great pictures with a zoom without having to get your fancy camera wet and nasty…enough said!!

The fourth item on my list are BODY WARMERS…I LOVE THESE THINGS!!! I never travel to Canada without them. We all know that it can get cool on the water at any time during the year…the winds on the water can be brutal. These little GENIUS inventions can slip right into your gloves or right into your boots to keep your fingers and toesies completely warm and cozy. My sister-in-law always manages to mooch a few off me…she loves them, too!!! They also come in BODY size for those cold Canadian nights in the bunks!!

One last great idea for a stocking is CHAPSTICK.

I love my chapsticks, and I always keep a variety of them in my tacklebox in case I forget mine on the water. They come in a variety of flavors and for a dollar a tube…you can’t beat the price. They are also a little unexpected treat to find in a stocking!!! Plus they can act as a protectant in case your forget your SPF!!!

Now for the suprise!!! I am giving away to one lucky reader everything that I have mentioned on this post!!! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! To enter, just leave a comment on this post and tell me what you asked Santa for this year!! I will choose the winner at random by using http://www.random.org/ to chose a number!!

The contest runs until 5:00 CST on Christmas Eve so you have a week!!! I totally love my Christmas Stocking and wanted to share it with one of you…regardless of whether you are naughty or nice ;) Have Fun!!!

Also remember you can be entered twice by visiting http://www.fisherbabe.com/2009/12/fisherbabes-guide-to-fish-tastic.html and leaving a comment there as well as here!!!
