Okay…So I Am Turning 30 In July Of This Year…

and I am not…AT ALL…looking forward to it. I mean…for some reason…I feel like 30 is the birthday I am going to dread the most. There is just something about saying “I am in my 20’s” that I love. But who knows…maybe I can make 30 EVEN BETTER!!!

And the first way I am making 30 even better is by asking for an amazing 30th birthday gift…a 7 day cruise to FOUR…yes I said FOUR…amazing countries. My husband has given it the greenlight and so in December, I will be traveling to Mexico, Grand Cayman, Honduras, and Belize. I am beyond excited to be a jetsetter and cruiser for this trip.

Apparently, Grand Cayman and Isla Roatan have some of the best BEST best snorkeling in the world. I can’t wait to get up close and personal with my friends the fishies…no SHARKS though…just fishies that can’t eat me. Maybe I can even get some great deep sea fishing in while visiting Cozumel, but even if I can’t, I simply adore gazing at all the beautiful creatures under the sea.

Our first stop on the lovely Carnival Cruise ship, “the Legend” will be to Cozumel. I love Cozumel, but personally, I am more excited about the next stop at Grand Cayman Island.

I can’t wait to visit the 7 mile beach which is pictured above. Doesn’t it look absolutely lovely. I can already imagine myself lounging in my bikini…sh**…I had some fattening Wendy’s for lunch…oh well!!! Anyways, doesn’t it look lovely?? LOL…I cannot wait!!! Another huge reason I am excited for Grand Cayman is this…

Stingray City!!!! Apparently..there is a whoooooole city of stingrays that swim around your legs and suck squid out of your hand…YIPPPPEEEE ~ I can’t wait. It sounds amazing to me!!! They are such beautiful creatures!!!

The next place we are visiting that I am incredibly excited about is Isla Roatan, Honduras. I hear this little island has the ABSOLUTE BEST snorkeling in the world. And look…

isn’t it beautiful. A lot of the excursions that are offered on cruise ships are lovely BUT expensive. So I always look for things to do that are safe and fun but NOT offered by the cruise ship. Apparently, Isla Roatan has a gorgeous butterfly sanctuary that only costs $5 US dollars to enter and you can take a bus there from the pier for a mere $.80 US cents. So, for a lovely $5.80 US dollars, we can see butterflies like this…

and have them float around your head and land in your hair!!! WOOT WOOT!!! It doesn’t get better than butterflies dancing around you in one of the most beautiful places on earth!!!

Belize City is another stop on our lovely trip. Although I have ALWAYS ALWAYS wanted to visit Belize, this ship docks in Belize City. Now, I am sure Belize City is lovely, but it is a city and I love the islands. I still have to do some more research on this location, but the one thing I really hope to do someday is to take a helicopter ride over the Blue Hole. Pretty amazing right???

So this is how I am battling the 30 year blues. I think adding a 30 year old PAR-TAY to the mix would be super and give me something to look forward to instead of dreading that day!! Have any of you visited any of these places?? I would love some suggestions on where to visit and what to do while I am there!!! I would especially love some information on Belize City. I feel like I am being unfair to this place because I can’t find any great information on it in my guide books. If you have visited Belize City, please leave a comment and tell me how wonderful it is!!!

I am slowly but surely realizing that my life has been pretty extraordinary for being only 30 years old. Perhaps the key to understanding how to deal with 30 is realizing that I am a very lucky girl to get to travel to all these amazing places with such amazing people!! I certainly have a lot to be thankful for!!

Besides, I am starting to think that 30 is absolutely the hottest and funnest age of all…at least, until I turn 31 that is ;)

Happy Fishing ~

The “Problem” Of Beauty For Women In Sports…

… is a question that has long weighed on my mind. This dilemma sits heavy on my shoulders, and kinda…well…ticks me off sometimes. This problem is addressed in a new article titled,
Let the Lindsey hype begin: Vonn is Sports Illustrated cover girl

In short, the article discusses the new Sports Illustrated Cover featuring Lindsey Vonn who is poised to become the greatest American woman skier of all time. However, the only thing people are focusing on is the pose she is in on the cover…suggesting that it is too provocative. The only thing I see on the cover is a beautiful, athletic, talented girl in an overexaggerated tuck stance regularly seen in the sport of skiing. Come on people…CHILLAX!!!

The article states, “…This is Vonn’s moment. If she wins multiple golds in Vancouver, Vonn has the potential to become a major crossover star. She’d be like Michael Phelps, only with better looks and an actual personality. Landing on the SI cover is a good way for her to start the Vonn saturation campaign. It’s as important for her as it is the magazine. The pose is suggestive, sure, but it’s not objectifying. The headline reads “America’s best woman skier ever”, for Jean-Claude’s sake! Why can’t she be both the best skier in the world and really, really attractive too? Tom Brady’s a great athlete and a handsome dude and I don’t hear people whine when he’s shirtless in GQ. Most importantly, this cover is almost identical to the one that ran on SI’s Winter Olympic preview in 1992. That one featured a gentleman named A.J. Kitt and I’m pretty sure nobody complained that it was too provocative.”

Well…I say they hit the nail on the head when they pose the question, “why can’t she be both the best skier in the world and really, really attractive too?” Why do people get so mad and immediately dismiss talent and credibility because the girl is beautiful and sexy. It is obvious this girl is skilled in the sport of skiing. Why do people immediately cry “Objectification or Provocation” just because the cover shot showcases an attractive woman? She is completely covered in a ski outfit, for goodness sake…LOL!! Personally, I adore the last line regarding Tom Brady.

Frankly, the whole double standard thing annoys me…and I find it most annoying when it comes from other women. Women who should rejoice in the success and forward progress of their gender are the first to criticize, and that fact both amazes and disgusts me.

Well I say…GO LINDSEY and the entire USA Women’s Ski Team!!! You girls are athletic, talented, and skilled and none of those qualities deserve to be undermined by your beauty. GO TEAM USA!!!

And to all the people out there who hate or dismiss thier talent because they are super hot chicas…well…I guess the world has a place for idiots, too!!!

FISH ON!!!

It Is The Month Of Loooooooooove…

…and I, for one, LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!!! First of all…it is just FOUR more months til my awesome trip to Dunlop’s. Secondly, it is the month for lovers…and mine gives me beautiful presents!!! Yes…he is a good Fisherhubby. But…speaking of presents, Valentines Day is a perfect time to give your Fisherbabe lots of warm, fuzzy, lovely items to keep her comfy and warm on that really super awesome fishing trip she has so lovingly agreed to go on with you.

You know…us Fisherbabes aren’t like you Fisherguys. When I go on a fishing trip to a grungy old camp that hasn’t been cleaned to my standards of sterilization…ever, I like to take along things that make me feel beautiful and sexy and comfy especially for my time in the evenings at the cabin. So here are some of my favorite things to take along…annnnd maybe you can find a lovely little present for your lovely Fisherbabe, as well.

My favorite thing to splurge on for myself is PAJAMAS. I love night wear. It can make you feel comfy and cozy and sexy and beautiful all at the same time…especially when you are in a kinda dirty cabin in the middle of the woods. This set is beautiful and from victorias secret. It is made of cotton and would be great for cold or warm weather trips because its loose enough to not stick to the skin in warm weather but would also allow for layering in colder weather. Also its very reasonably priced at $34.00 and comes in a variety of colors. My favorite, though, is of course the pink!!!

Many times, I am the only girl in camp with lotsa boys…so make sure whatever you buy her is comfortable, beautiful, but also modest so that she doesnt feel uncomfortable in front of the other boys. Also…on the business end of things, there are weight limits and they are STRICT. These are cotton and light so the weight won’t be a problem :)

My next MUST HAVE item on a fishing trip is a good pair of light-weight slippers. I have these UGGS and, although they look heavy, they are actually very light. They ring up at 110.00 and come in a variety of colors. They are very warm and have a wool lining like all UGG boots. In addition, they have a great rugged sole that can be worn outside in the middle of the night for a trip to the “tree” or the probably not pink outhouse.

This bag is beautiful. It’s soft-sided so it can be shoved into a duffel or packed into a tote bag. It holds a lot of a girls beauty items and keeps them safe and sound. It can be found at Target and comes in at a very low price of $19.99. I love these bags, because we always drive at least 24 hours to get to our airport and I like to have my beauty supplies at my fingertips. This bag packs into my car tote very nicely and packs into my duffel bag for the trip to the camp. Plus…it’s perfect for either weekend trips or week long trips. It comes in a lot of different colors, as well!!!

This item is MY FAVORITE to carry along on my fishing trips…although I am not sure the guys will agree. This Shampoo and Conditioner set from Victorias Secret is a VERY VERY fragrant haircare set that makes me feel lovely and decadent even in the nastiest of places. Plus, since I can’t usually fit full sized bottles into my bag (because of weight issues), these are perfect because they come in perfect little trial sizes. This set is so fragrant that they double as a perfume of sorts. It isn’t a good idea to wear perfumes and smelly body lotions in the wild as they attract mosquitos and other pesky bugs, but this haircare set gives a beautiful, subtle fragrance that doesn’t attract bugs…trust me ~ it’s tried and tested…LOL :)

Now you may think to yourself…why in the world would I give facial cleansing wipes to my lover for V-day, but this line of deep clean cleansers, moisturizers, and beauty products is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G, and you can get creative and give her a whole basket full of them. The deep clean line is perfect for fishing getaways because they clean your skin and moisturize it in the deepest, best way possible. I swear by these wipes when I go fishing because there are many times when I cannot shower for A WEEK…I know – ewwwwwwwwwwww!! These wipes keep my face looking lovely and fresh and fit right into my tackle box which is PERFECT. Sometimes a girl just needs a little freshening ya know!!!

I love all these products. They are super perfect for any girl (or girls ;) on your V-Day list. I think a present of the PJs, the haircare, and the UGGS would be an AWESOME present. Throw in a couple lures and some fishing line and it could be the best present EVER!! Personally, I can’t wait for Valentines Day. I know that many people think its a stupid holiday made famous by retailers to sell stuff but please just remember…every day is what you make of it and it can be as magical as you want it to be ;)

Happy Shopping ~

The Fisherbabe’s Guide To A FISH-TASTIC Holiday Season…

Okay Okay…so I have spent the last hour trying to figure out what is wrong with blogger that it won’t let me upload my STOCKING STUFFERS video. I have just gotten so frustrated that I give up…LOL :) So back to the normal old grind of writing a post…LOL!!! Darn…my video was good too…LOL :)

So anyways…my little sock is full of super great ideas for any fishergirl or fisherboy on your list…and all of these things fit right into a stocking!!! AND…at the end of this post, there is a special little suprise just waiting!!!

Sooooooo…what is in my stocking??? Let’s see…

First, I have Berkely Line Clippers. Now these are great for a multitude of little odd jobs when fishing…they cut your line, they make switching lures faster, ect. PLUS, they have a strap that goes around your neck to ensure that they are always easily accessible when needed. They are from Berkley, a trusted brand that is made to last.

They are also pretty cheap at only 2 bucks!!!

Second, I have PLANO POCKET STOWAWAY BOXES.

Now, everyone knows how much I LOVE PLANO!!! This is a company that is dependable and trustworthy. Their products are tough and durable, and I always have a couple of these little boxes in my tackle box. They fit right down into the bottom of most hip/roof boxes and into the top of most large tray boxes. They also easily fit into your pocket (or a stocking)!!!
In my stocking, I have a double sided small stowaway and a six compartment pocket stowaway…
They are inexpensive stocking stuffers that run around 2-3 dollars each. They fit perfectly inside any stocking and are great for flies and tiny lures.

I would be incredibly happy to find Plano anything stuffed into my stocking on Christmas morning!!! (Hint Hint Santa!!)

The third super cool item in my stocking is a Polaroid disposable camera with 2x ZOOM.

Now, I love this because it allows you to take great pictures with a zoom without having to get your fancy camera wet and nasty…enough said!!

The fourth item on my list are BODY WARMERS…I LOVE THESE THINGS!!! I never travel to Canada without them. We all know that it can get cool on the water at any time during the year…the winds on the water can be brutal. These little GENIUS inventions can slip right into your gloves or right into your boots to keep your fingers and toesies completely warm and cozy. My sister-in-law always manages to mooch a few off me…she loves them, too!!! They also come in BODY size for those cold Canadian nights in the bunks!!

One last great idea for a stocking is CHAPSTICK.

I love my chapsticks, and I always keep a variety of them in my tacklebox in case I forget mine on the water. They come in a variety of flavors and for a dollar a tube…you can’t beat the price. They are also a little unexpected treat to find in a stocking!!! Plus they can act as a protectant in case your forget your SPF!!!

Now for the suprise!!! I am giving away to one lucky reader everything that I have mentioned on this post!!! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! To enter, just leave a comment on this post and tell me what you asked Santa for this year!! I will choose the winner at random by using http://www.random.org/ to chose a number!!

The contest runs until 5:00 CST on Christmas Eve so you have a week!!! I totally love my Christmas Stocking and wanted to share it with one of you…regardless of whether you are naughty or nice ;) Have Fun!!!

Also remember you can be entered twice by visiting http://www.fisherbabe.com/2009/12/fisherbabes-guide-to-fish-tastic.html and leaving a comment there as well as here!!!

Dear Santa…

How are you? How is Mrs. Claus…and the elves? I have been a very good girl this year and hope that you will come visit me on Christmas Eve this year. Lots of things have happened this year…like I started this really awesome fishing blog called “From The Fisherbabe” and have met some really awesome people. I really hope that you visit them, too!!! They are all only a little naughty and are all really mostly nice ;)

Lots of other things have happened to me this year, as well. For example, today I was mentioned on http://www.thefishingwire.com/ and I “facebook met” Alan Clemons. He is a super nice guy!!! Also, I broke my freshwater fish record with a 25 pound Lake Trout at Mackay Lake this year!!!! I also broke my Pike record with quite a few 43.5 inch Pike, as well!!! I hope that next year I get to tell you that I broke those records AGAIN!!! That is one thing I wouldn’t mind happening to me year after year…(you know…in case you have an “in” with Mother Nature)!!

Anyways…back to my list :) I have really been doing some thinking about what I want this year, and I think it would be great if you could get me a show on WFN. I hear you have connections over there and that would just be the most awesome present ever!!! If that isn’t possible…then a deal with Cabela’s that includes all the Orange Hammers I could ever want would be okay too!!! Oh yeah…and could you tell Plano Molding Company to PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE bring back the 8505…or at least any hip roof box that includes more than 4 trays????? (Thx on that!!)

If none of those things are possible, here is a list of a couple of other things that I would like:

  1. Pomegranate Colored Under Armour
  2. The North Face Denali Jacket in Aurora Pink Heather
  3. Mad Bomber Hat in Natural or Hickory
  4. Gore Tex Guide Tech Bibs in Red/Light Onyx
  5. SmartWool Socks…and LOTS of them!!!
  6. Under Armour coldgear Hitch Socks
  7. Cabela’s Winter Sport Boots in White/Pink (of course!!)
  8. Keen Women’s Betty Boot in Madder Brown (and yes Santa…I need 2 pairs of boots!!)
  9. A Plano Molding Company anything…I like whatever you can bring me from there…but maybe especially a new rod case (UGH…I have to share the hubbys…I think I need my own…in PINK)…
  10. Pretty much anything on page 291 in the Cabelas Christmas Catalog…
  11. Anything in any fishing catalog that Cabelas has put out since the start of the company…

I hope that I have not asked for too much, Santa. If you can’t bring me any of the above things then World Peace would be nice ;) or maybe you could just grant all my awesome friends all the huge fish they could possibly want this next year…that would be cool, too…although I would totally take the show on WFN over any of this…(sorry guys…and world :) LOL!!!)

Thanks Santa…you know…in advance for whatever you bring me…I am sure the year to come will be full of great friends and great blessings even if I don’t receive a single present (but seriously…the lifetime supply of orange hammers would be awesome…oh yeah and the Rod Case from Plano!!)… ;)

Lots of Love ~

Santa Baby…I’ve Been An Awfully Good Girl…

I am still pouring over my Cabela’s Catalog that I got yesterday…they really have some great deals in this years catalog. I have been pleasantly suprised. Of course, this only makes me more excited for the super duper discount party on Sunday night. My hubby keeps telling me to calm down and that I can’t buy anything for me…buuuut I am pretty sure I can talk him into just a little present for myself…

like maybe another Shimano Cardiff 200A??? I really love this reel…it is a great price for great quality!!! I also have the 400A which I personally do not enjoy using as much, because it is bigger and harder for my girlie hands to handle…however, you need the 400A for trout fishing up in the North like we did this fall…soooo maybe I should ask for one of those…TOO!!!!! Plus, it is also a super awesome reel…great price and great quality.

I have to admit when I first started reading the catalog I was not expecting to find a million things I wanted. But by the last page I was like this!!! ————–>

My eyes were full of lures, reels, rods, rainwear, boots, and overcoats that I LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!! Not to mention all the cute clothes and hats and scarves and…EVERYTHING!!!

I am soooooooo excited to go to the sale!!! YAY CABELAS!!!

I am still working on my list for Santa…no worries…I will share it when I am done!!! I hope you guys are having as much fun with your Christmas catalogs as I am with mine!!!!

Happy Catalog Perusing ~

What A Great Feeling It Is…

… to know that there are really amazing, really kind, and really FABULOUS people in the world. In case you do not recall, a few weeks ago I ran a contest called “A Fishy Tale” in honor of reaching 10,000 visitors here on my blog. You guys all posted your SUPER AWESOME fishy stories, and http://www.random.org/ randomly selected a winner…who turned out to be InBassAngler (aka Derek).

After winning, Derek asked me to donate the majority of his prize to a local charity of my choice, and I came to you guys asking for suggestions. You gave me great feedback, and today I donated Derek’s prize to the Big Brother/Big Sister Program here in Lincoln!!!

Last week, I called up the program and spoke to a super sweet lady named Melinda. She sent out some emails asking for any pair of big/little’s that enjoyed outdoor time/fishing together, and got a great response!!!

This afternoon, I donated Derek’s prize to Big Brother Kyle and Little Brother Paul who I am certain will put the products to good use…and as it turned out, Kyle is a tournament angler himself!!!

The Big Brother/Big Sister Program does such FABULOUS things for both the youth as “littles” and for the adults as “Bigs”. It really made me happy to be able to give these guys some really great products from really great company’s!!!

Thank you all so much for your suggestions and for participating in the contest. Thank you even more for reading my blog and for being such great outdoor friends!!!

Happy Fishing ~
